As a respected Professor in the Cosmetology Department at Houston Community College and a Licensed Trichologist, she brings a wealth of knowledge to her newest endeavor: a dedicated Hair Loss Clinic designed to support women of all backgrounds on their journey to restored confidence and healthy hair.
Markena specializes in helping women experiencing hair loss due to stress, medical conditions, and improper styling practices. Her expertise in trichology allows her to identify the root causes of hair and scalp concerns, creating personalized treatment plans that nurture healing from the inside out. It all starts with a comprehensive consultation. During your appointment, we review your answers, do an assessment of your scalp, and then put together a treatment plan customized for you. Each treatment plan includes everything you need for successful treatment of your hair loss:

What causes hair loss?
Hair loss can be triggered by a variety of factors, often working together. The most common causes include genetics, overall health, certain medications, stress, and poor nutrition.
Understanding the root cause is the first step toward finding the right solution. With the right treatment plan, it’s possible to slow down hair loss—and in many cases, even reverse it.
Do you accept insurance?
Unfortunately, we cannot accept insurance but in certain instances we may be able to accept HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) cards.
Hair loss treatments are HSA or FSA eligible if they are prescribed by a physician to treat a specific medical condition, not just for cosmetic reasons, like male pattern baldness. Treatments for alopecia, an autoimmune disease causing hair loss, may be eligible with a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from a physician. Consult with a physician to determine if your hair loss is medically necessary, then obtain the Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) outlining the medical need for the treatment.
It is important to note that the eligibility of HSA or FSA funds for hair loss treatments may vary depending on the specific HSA plan and the underlying medical condition. It is always recommended to consult with your healthcare provider or HSA administrator for specific guidance.
How long before I can expect to see results from the program?
It’s important to understand that any hair loss program is a long-term commitment, much like managing conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes. Consistency is key. You’ll get the best results by following the recommended treatment plan and maintaining healthy habits like eating a balanced diet, managing stress, and staying generally well.
Keep in mind that certain health conditions—such as thyroid imbalances, diabetes, anemia, hormonal shifts, autoimmune diseases, and high stress levels—can impact your progress. If any of these apply to you, we’ll work with you to create a plan that supports your overall health as well as your hair goals.
Can clients color their hair while on a treatment plan?
We recommend you use good products and have your coloring done by someone skilled in the use of such products. Do not use Minoxidil or other topical solutions on the day you color your hair or until you shampoo your hair. This minimizes the possibility of a chemical reaction between all the chemicals you are applying to your hair and scalp. Do not use a laser comb or have a laser treatment on the day you color your hair.
What type of styling products do you recommend?
Alcohol-free products are best. We can recommend several alcohol-free styling products for you to purchase.
What is the age requirement for treatment?
For liability reasons, we do not treat anyone under 18 years of age.
